Yeah, our cat is perfect about using his litter box. He's peed on my couch cushion twice, because his box was blocked and he couldn't get to it - say goodbye to that cushion. Dx
The landlord supposedly replaced the carpet padding already, but we don't know in which rooms. I'm going to be lighting incense like crazy for a while, to see if the smoke settles in the carpets.
This lady before us supposedly had dogs, cats, rats, reptiles. The whole lot. And she just let them all run free everywhere. We think that there might still be rats living here too.
