I don't know where ya'll live, but our electricity bill (with the air running) is never above 200. So I'm assuming you make at least two paychecks a month. That's four hundred dollars a month. You could get a three bedroom here for that price-your own place. And other places are cheaper than that. So by my standard, you should get air. But then again, considering where I live, not having air should be considered negligence or something if you have any kids.
It's not horribly hot here, mid 80s or 90s at the most in summer, and this place is a 2 bedroom apartment, and is $1275 a month for just the rent (but water(even hot because of how the building's system is set up) is included.
I pay $400 towards rent, and they pay the rest. I get two paychecks a month, and I make $8.50/hr. The new England area is expensive to live, and I happen to be in a tourist town less than 5 miles or so fro mthe beach (and that's travelling to the 'better' beach)

I'm glad I don't live there. I wouldn't pay over 600 a month for a two bedroom....even if I could afford it. Unless it comes with appliances....and good ones....then I might pay more.

I would move if I was you. I doubt a one bedroom is much cheaper...so if you ever wanted to move out....you'd be screwed.

And you're lucky....but I've had heatstroke before so when it gets too much over 75 outside....it is miserable to me .-.

Actually even in a town 40 min from here I used to live in we were in the crappiest apartments (mym om and I only) and the cheapest place we could find was $500/mo. Here a 1 bedroom is $700/mo or more

Then they are screwing you all.

You can get a three bedroom HOUSE for 400 a month down here. Now...it isn't the best ever or anything (none of the houses down here are) but it's cheap compared to what ya'll are paying.

You've now convinced me that I'm stuck here forever. Which depresses me. Because I am never paying that much for a "good" place. Now if it was like 4 bedrooms...that 1k+ price would be acceptable...since I've seen no apartment with 4 bedrooms around here.

Not all places are like this.
I mean even Portland Oregon's housing stuff on craigslist has like 3 bedroom thigns for just around $1k Vs the for New Hampshire state one's housing, which I see a 1 bedroom for over $800, or a 2 bedroom for $800-1k ro more depending on the area.

Default #63641
And they're all screwing you because they can. Because they know people will pay it to have a place to live if they have the money. Me? I'd have to go back home and want to kill myself.

I'm stuck here for the rest of my life then. And there is a security deposit D:

No you're nto stuck there're plenty of cheaper areas, and it's not so much that the rent people are screwing us, just everywhere costs different amounts based off "costs of living" depending on what is in the area, ro similar factors.

Default #63643
And they're making the cost of living go up. Being a landlord should not be someone's only source of income. Houses and apartments can burn...or not be rented for periods of time.

And I'm not living in a hell hole to just get away form here. If I was that desperate...I would've just ended it all by now.
Default #63644
Not every cheap area is a hell hole... ;) I've lived in a few good, cheap places and some crappy high end places, like the condos in California which even ahd a swimming pool, among other stuff (shared, but still) and a guy got shot in the arm outside of it o_o

Oh man... I hated the rent prices in Los Angeles. D: I loved living there and it was nice, but waaaay too expensive. @o@

What were the average prices? xD

Plus, part of cost of living is usually jobs in higher rent areas do pay a bit higher, too.

People can get shot and killed anywhere. Just look back at the crimes committed in the past.
