Technologically speaking, that statement is simply wrong. Firefox has been playing catch-up to Chrome for quite a while now -- a couple years, I think. Chrome is faster and more standards-compliant.
Firefox's only advantages are that it has a much larger selection of user-provided extensions, and that BECAUSE it was the best browser for a very long time a lot of websites ended up coding around making Firefox behave even if it meant the site wouldn't work in Chrome/Safari. (Much like sites do that for IE.)
These are relevant advantages, for certain, but you can't say Firefox is unilaterally superior to Chrome, because it's not.
