yeah...it makes me feel so stupid too because it is usually something that when you notice it it just sorta /clicks/

I GOT IT
there's a little too much headspace from the tip of his head to the top of the picture, and the weird framething on the left takes away from the picture, because of the color. if it were a little darker or lighter ( i think lighter) it would probably blend better.

it was funky before that, the bg was a means of correcting the issue

i mean, his eyes are so big they never look right anyway and the round of his nose only works with his head tipped a bit more and the haircut looks terrible when it's not in the braid

The eyes are definitely messing it up
I actually think it's the entire head now that you mention it
it doesn't sit right within the picture
i still think you should add some colour contrast among the sheets and whatnot

the far side of his face is what's bothering me! it's a little too thin and doesn't accomodate for his cheekbones and right eye
it makes the head too narrow

oh.....well damn, you were really close and can have your art anyway, the right is fine, if you follow the neck that is how it is /supposed/ to be but look at the left, it's way too far over it's nearly front-facing
