"What sort of feller don't carry a pocket knife? It's one 'a the most handy things a man can have," said Herbie.

"Especially if you're in the habit of eating shellfish, I suppose," Russel remarked.

"An for just about anything else," said Herbie.

"Like apples! Or bits of rope... I suppose it could be useful for opening packages, as well," mused Russel. "Cutting flowers..."

"And if you get into bar fights with dirty Krauts!" added Herbie.

"Bar fights with... good 'eavens!" Russel clucked disapprovingly at the idea. "Nonetheless, I may wish to get one of these knives for other purposes."

"Never know when a dirty Kraut will sneak up on ya, best to be prepared," said Herbie with a twirl of his mustache.

"It 'asn't happened yet," Russel said dismissively as he eyed Herbie's mustache with mild fascination. "Who've we even got of that description other than our police chief? I hardly think he'll be springing on me unexpectedly any time soon. Even if 'e is rather like a spider..."

"Krauts have a way of blending in...so you never know," said Herbie, his eyes darting back and forth, "For all I know...you could be one!"

"Ha!" Russel beamed at him. "That's absurd. Come on, then; let's get to cooking these things."

Herbie snorted and began preparing more clams, he noticed that Saya was staring quite intently at his mustache. He winked at her, "Wanna touch it?"

"I'm a bit curious about it, myself," said Russel. "I never could grow a proper mustache."

Herbie beamed as he let Saya feel his mustache, "Helluva stache isn't it?" he asked, Saya giggled, "yes it is!"

"How does it stay like this?" asked Russel as he moved in to poke at Herbie's mustache as well.
