I don't mind having a wide torso without them, but they make stuff uncomfortable and it's hell trying to find nice button-down shirts that don't gap

They do indeed get passed onto other users, possibly another nine years in the future when the 9th birthday pasties are rare items that half the userbase doesn't even remember.
