Well there are some studies that indicate that hypnosis can help subdue phobias, but I don't know the true success rate.

Oh it's easy to cure a phobia, it just requires total emmersion.

Hypnosis can only work if you want it to work, it cant change your phsychiatry, etc. Mythbusters did some tests with it aswell.

If I want to get rid of a phobia, I would want it to work.

Hypnosis is very real. It's the process of overwhelming the mind with so many signals at once that it sends you into a meditative state. It can be used to help search for memories for important details, etc. It's also been connected with past life regression, which is partially true and partially false. It's best to have a person there to make sure the hypnotist doesn't plant false details, etc.
