i you go to add a 5th image IMG tag it'll tell you you have to many

a staff member can overide this by staffy stuff but it's wrong for one to do

Heeee, yup, that's all the rules about signatures. Keep it small, refrain from over-posting clickables, but you can have a million tiny images if you want.

Edit: Oh, it stops you from adding a 5th image? Hm. That's kinda neat actually.

Well now you know! I feel if it's relevant to the conversation (you're talking about clickables or somebody asks about it or something), you should be okay in posting one or two. The problem is when people start using clickable pets as part of post styles or going around the forums begging for clicks, which I've seen on other sites and is really annoying.
