"Huh?" Nic asked, resisting a little.

Laurel rolled her eyes for the second time, "Lap pillow." she explained, "I want you to relax a little for now, tonight I'm going to have to insist you sleep in the bed though." she nodded firmly.

So Nic tried relaxing. For the most part he managed to do so. But now he looked awake, eyes blinking up at her.

Laurel blinked down at him for a moment, "Want me to sing something?" she asked quietly as she brushed some hair from his eyes, "I'm not that great but... I'm on tune."

Nic was silent for a moment. "... I'm fine, but sing if you want to sing," he told her.

Laurel paused before shaking her head, "I..." she sighed a little, "Is this alright? I've never... done stuff like this before." she admitted quietly, "But I want to touch you." she said with endearing honesty as she twirled some of his hair between her fingers.

Nic paused before nodding a little. "But I don't think I can fall asleep like you want me to."

Laurel seemed to consider this for a long moment, "Why not?" she finally asked with a small frown as she stared at his hair.

Nic took a long time to think the wording through. "... I can't sleep when you're touching me," he tried to explain.

"Because it's annoying?" Laurel asked quietly.

Nic shook his head, but said nothing.

Laurel sighed a little, "Sorry... I'm not very good at this." she admitted, "If I don't touch you, could you fall asleep on my lap? Or does that count as touching too?"

"... That counts," he concluded.

Laurel nodded again, "Alright, you should sleep..." she replied but didn't move, continuing to stare down at him.

And so they remained at a stand still. Nic stayed where he was, but showed no signs of falling asleep anytime soon as he continued to stare up at her.

"Oh." Laurel suddenly remembered, "The neonates are doing a raid but Wolfe said they should be back in about a week. So you have more time to finish..." she paused, "whatever it is you're doing."
