I just adore character development and some important moments got omitted in favor of expanding scenes...like how they expanded the dragon fight in th 4th movie...

Yes, it is. Book one is open now, and it has wand test, house test, potions, and spells.

:O How do you get to the wand and house test?!

Go through the story. Wand is in chapter 5, and house in chapter 7. Not too far to go. You can always speed through and go back, or take your time the first round.
