I think you would need iTunes, sadly. It is not too bad though, and you can still get songs onto your iPod if you burn songs from CDs at the library.

hmm I think for now I will just go with the one where I can just plug it in and it doesn't require programming. I have one like that now, but for some odd reason the player stopped working but it can still be used as a storage device.

Like a usb stick. I have had written documents saved on it. You can do that with a ipod too. My friend has all kinds of crap saved on hers. She uses her 180 gig like an external harddrive.
