Suze is right, and you still have to get to really close quarters which is easily defendable to someone who has undergone self defence training.

I hope so, Espy. Even if both parties have no idea what they're doing, no one walks out of a knife-fight safe.

Not to mention, it's always good to check what the legal limit on the length of a concealed blade in your area is. I make a point never to leave with my knife for that reason, anything over 4 inches is illegal here.

Think the legal limit around here is also 4in. Lost my (second) Swiss some time ago; still have my shitty one. Bought a small touch blade box-opener thing because I'd rather lose that than my shitty knife.

That's rather what I meant. Drawing a knife (especially a folding knife that takes a second to bring to bear) is extremely dangerous, all the more so if the attacker is already in an overpowering position.

Mace or tasers are quite a great deal safer (and more effective at incapacitating; stab wounds can be fought through with adrenaline.) though there's legality issues with those, too. I know tasers of any kind are illegal here. As are telescopic batons. x__x
