Personally, I stopped wearing a base completely as soon as we got the Second Skin item. It's been a few years now.

I had a friend that did that on a different site but it was because her avatar was naked and you can't do that normally. She'd still get art and stuff for it but would never log in for fear of losing it's nakedness.
