There are always cats! They hide in the shadows and sometimes they just appear.
Magical creatures they are, especially black ones.
If you see black cats often maybe you are a bit magical too ^^

What exactly does that mean?

I assume it means that the cat will be nowhere in sight, and then when you take a step he'll suddenly be right in front of your ankle.

I have two birds and three cats. They don't exactly get along, but the birds have made it clear that they won't tolerate any nonsense from the cats, so the cats leave the birds alone.

@Ireland - what Coda said is exactly right. it's much more fun in the dark! XD

No-nonsense birds. I respect that. LOL

Those cats are probably a little weirded out by that in the "I'm supposed to eat you. Why are you bossing me around?" O__O

How old do cats usually get?

well, we had two cats who died at 13, they were indoor/outdoor. my mom had a cat who was indoor only who died at 16, i think.

and my bad, Max is only 13. he'll be 14 in the spring of 2016.
