the Man in the High Castle has two seasons on Amazon Prime - and i've watched both seasons. (neverminding that i don't have Amazon Prime...) XD

i've read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and i have Blade Runner too!

His episode on "Prophets of Science Fiction" is pretty good. I don't think it went too much into drugs, but it went into a number of mental quirks he may have. It seems to be a little rampant among sci-fi types. I've read ...Electric Sheep? since I am a big fan of Blade Runner and wanted to read the source material. Could probably have a look at Total Recall as well.

i've only read those two things by PKD. a quick google search told me i've only seen Total Recall and Minority Report as far as other movies based on his works, but that's all.

There is a book of PKD short stories that contains most of the originals to the movies. I cannot believe how many of his stories/novels have been made into movies. Blade Runner is my favorite movie, and I read the book originally because of that, but the movie did not follow the book too closely.

I saw that episode of Masters of Science Fiction. He was a very interesting person.

Another syfy author I like is Eric Brown. Right now I am reading Engineman by him.

I read Dune and really didn't like it much. But that was a long time ago, I should try it again.

Dune is ... interesting. Frank Herbert has a very dense writing style. he reminds me of the earlier writers that liked cashing in on those $10 vocab words. XD

Yeah that was my impression of Dune the first time I read it.
Have you read Hyperion by Dan Simmons? (have I asked you that already?) He is an interesting writer too. I really liked Hyperion and Drood by him.
Default #343
yep, we were talking about Hyperion and related stories, probably somewhere in this very thread! I read Hyperion and the Fall of Hyperion in 2011 (so says Goodreads). i have not read Endymion and the Rise of Endymion, however.

I have Ilium and Olympos on my to-re-read list, though! =)

Yes I remember now. I thought that we had talked about it.
He writes in other genres too. Thrillers besides syfy. There are so many books I want to read, I don't think I will be able to get through all of them.
Default #345
yep, yep. I may read some of his other stuff... eventually.

I have a lot of books on my to-read list - I hope I get to read a bunch of them this year, too.

Right now I am reading Engineman by Eric Brown. I never used to read much syfy because my science background was terrible. But the last few years I have become very interested in quantum mechanics, etc. Now when I read syfy I actually understand the concepts. I read Hollow Man by Simmons and though I wasn't crazy about it, it had a lot of quantum physics, multiverse stuff in it that was interesting.

wow! your science background is more extensive than mine, I'll tell you that!

i like more 'soft' scifi, and i also like fantasy and paranormal. i've always liked time travel, too.

I find quantum physics fascinating, it also deals with the spiritual side of the Universe. They always figured that science would prove there was no God, instead science is proving that there had to be an "intelligent designer" . They have actually found the God Particle (Higgs Boson) which is the particle that created mass during The Big Bang. Its just fascinating, and a lot of the syfy books I read now have so much of that as a background.

that's really cool, actually!

It really is. Liking to read a lot helps in getting knowledge. Even in fiction you can learn stuff. I read a lot of hard non-fiction science books. I just keep rereading a paragraph or a sentence until I sort of get it. I watch a lot of the shows on the Science Channel, that is the easiest way to learn about this stuff.
