I've done chips of crayon between a folded piece of tracing or parchment paper and ironed it then opened it out for a sort of stained glass rainbow inkblot.

Maybe your craft store has the small foam orange ones that are carveable or sharpie draw on I tried to find one here for the turtles becide their tank

I carved a pumpkin tonight. My pumpkin has some rough spots, but eh. It was kinda small, which turns out maybe made it harder to carve? IDK.
