What sparked the term 'Uncle Sam' for the United States?
There was this dude who... had something to do with provisions? Meat packaging? during the... War of 1812, or was it the Civil War. Anyways I think he always had to stamp his name on the provision crates, and right next to it would be "U.S.", so everyone came to associate his name to the big "U.S." stamp. |
