i’m struggling w normal stress, shear stress, strain, and displacement right now. There’s a reason we call Stress Analysis “anal stress”...

On the flip side, I'm trying to figure out how to bring math to bear against my current problem: humans.

I designed, built, and maintain a piece of software responsible for bulk corporate travel booking. I'm the only full-time engineer on my team. (I have a couple other engineers I can call in for maintenance tasks, but I'm officially the project lead, unofficially the account manager, and effectively the architect. This part isn't really an awful; it's actually kind of an awesome, because I'm finding fulfillment in my work in a way I've never felt before, even though it's not all the kind of work I like too be doing. (I really am not a manager-type.)

We're sitting on two weeks of record-setting traffic into my system. There were a couple technological hiccups right at the beginning that I squashed pretty quickly. But it's still way more traffic than the company we contract to process hotel reservations is able to keep up with. And part of the reason the traffic is so high is because users aren't especially good at following instructions or being predictable or knowing what they want in advance.

So how do I make sure the instructions we send on to the travel agents are readable, sensible, and easy to follow?

nobody should have to go through peer abuse and i'm endlessly pissed off that people have experienced that shit from other humans. (bullying is way too soft a term, it should be called what it really is.)

teachers can only do so much, sometimes the rest is up to the student.

and teachers are responsible for protecting the students. it's entirely on the damn teachers for not acting on shit / only acting on shit when someone gets punched in retaliation.

oh f. i meant that as a metaphor for coda's dilemma.

but yeah for sure! teachers definitely have a duty to that and are supposed to set the best example. psychological and physical trauma like that can cripple a kid's lifetime.

Does Vitamin C help any?

My parents used to say when they felt a inkling of sickness, they'd take loads and loads of fit C and it would make them feel better.

It never worked for me, but to be fair, I never regularly took vitamin C ;-;

:[ I don't think we got any, unfortunately. But I'm feeling a weird dryness in my throat and sneezin' a bit, so that's why I think I'm gettin' sick.. >~>; I'll see if there's any vitamin C in the medicine closet, but I think it expired. <x}

Vitamin C doesn't help you stop being sick. You need a little bit in order to keep your immune system functioning properly, but taking excess doses doesn't do any better.

On the plus side, if it is expired it is more likely to have just lost potency than to have become toxic or bad for you. Vitamins, so long as they aren't gummies, are usually shelf stable for a long time past their expiry.

Though, this does not constitute medical advice and you should probably obey safety guidelines...
