some of the forum UI is a bit too clunky for my liking but it's also like. 10 years old and design trends have changed oop

admittedly, yeah. it works, though.

plus i don't think the base code can be updated without breaking SO MANY THINGS.

i actually like that the forum has stayed like this because nostalgia. tris, and forum sites in general really, are just these comfy nostalgic favourite blanket kind of things that charm me BECAUSE they've stayed so much the same

also moving slower than social media sites is a good thing, sometimes that shit gets way too fast and there's no good place for real conversation

exactly, it's not just the kind of conversations that happen on forums here that draw me to them, but also that i can't keep up with faster-moving social media. it makes me anxious.

I wound up strongly disliking the ping feature on other sites because it seemed like everyone relied so heavily on it that all the threads were just people @'ing each other with no room for others to join in.

I meant new posts in the thread like I leave the tab open and when someone posts the tab name changes (slow motion) (1)

i think i know what you mean- where someone chips in on the conversation, but everyone only sees the replies they are pinged in, so they miss that person's attempt to join in entirely, don't even see it?
