The Japanese, Fillipinos, and other pacific islands are Oriental, but not necisarily Asian, etc.

I'm saying that they are nations outside of the main centenants.
Just because there are seven continents doesnt mean every island nation is part of them.

... that's like saying England/Ireland, Iceland and Greenland aren't part of Europe.
They are indeed part of Asia and all those asian unions, cause for one they're a bit too north to be considered part of the Polynesian chain.

The Mystic Orient is Asia, we as westerners coined that term for them and there for they are still asian.

*shrugs* Not trying to argue, I'm just giving my oppinion and the oppinion of other people I have met. They are listed as part of those contenant on the map, but they are not connected to them.

You know I really don't trust the people that you've meet. You seem to rely on them alot. And unless they have Phd's in this I wouldn't listen to them. As an historian you should know better.

Honestly it happens every time we get into a disscussion, alot of the times its what your friend says. Yes its fine to have your opinions shapped by your friends however, its also good to search for yourself.

lol, I dont rely on anyone, I rely on what I know and what I dont know, and thruout history Japan has been an Island nation indipendent of Continental Asia, as has the Philipines. When the Portuguese began to map the areas they included Japan and the Philipines as part of the Asiatic region. Continent, as a word, refers to the 7 mainland regions of land on the planet, etc. However, Island Nations can still be concidered as being seperate from their neighboring continents. Like wise, I do not concider Ireland to be a part of the European continent, like I do not concider them to be a part of the British Isles.

Also I never refer to friends, I refer to people I have spoken too, including college doctors.

And yes you do, 75% of the time the words I have a friend is written before you write something. It has happened time and time again, in fact your entire union arguement was based on your brother if I recall. You've never been to the north, that was based on some one else. Also about the gays it was some one in your family. You don't rely on any one it sounds like you do to me.

Actually yes I have been to the north lol. And I hated unions before they screwed my brother over. And as for gays, I have also refered to a good friend I had for a long time, family members, people I knew, and people I didnt like. Also in this entire discussion I have not once refered to a friend.

Okay fine, you can consider these nations to be stand-offs from the mainland, but from my point of view they still rely on their closest large-land-connected neighbors, thus in turn making them a part of that continent. It's like kicking the kids out of the house, they're still family, even if they go wrong and change their names.
