"Huh?" Mello blinked dumbly and looked down. "Oh, my leg. I was in a bike accident."

"A what-!?" Near gasped, sitting up and looking down at Mello in alarm. "When-!? Is Mello okay-!? Well obviously not, Mello's hurt!" He glanced down, seeing the splint on the blonde's ankle. "Mello should have told me..."

He wanted to press it more, but he could tell the blonde was out of it. So instead he pressed the call nurse button and when a girl came in he asked her where Matt was.

"I'm not sure," She informed. "I'll find him and let him know you want him, alright?"

"My thanks," Near sighed, laying back.

"What do you want Matt for?" Mello frowned.

"I wanted to get an update on Zero and Beyond," Near informed, frowning at Mello. "Mello needs to rest... just go back to sleep, okay?"

"No, I wanna be with you." Mello shook his head. "Everyone's been telling to rest and rest and I just wanna be here for a change."

"Mello can barely stay awake!" Near cried, frowning. "Look... Mello is exhausted... and drugged up! Mello has plenty of time later... We have Zero and Beyond... everything can go back to normal now, right?"

"No...far from it." Mello replied mournfully as he shook his head.

Near frowned, obviously a little confused. "Why?"

Mello shook his head again.

"Just let me stay here." Mello told Near.

"Mello isn't making any sense," Near sighed, shaking his head and turning away.

He climbed out of the bed, not seeming weak at all for someone whose heart had just stopped.

"Near!" Mello started to climb out of the bed.

"Mello, what is wrong?" Near asked him with a frown, turning toward the blonde. "Mello is acting strangely... did something happen? Is everyone okay?"

"No- Ow!" Mello winced as he put too much pressure on his leg before he pressed the button for more morphine. "Why are you so anxious to get away from me?"

Near actually looked a little offended. "I'm not trying to get away from Mello-! I only want to let Mello get better... Mello has never been so clingy. What is wrong-?"

Mello blinked and held his head.

"I'm not able to...because of the drugs, so it doesn't fit together." Mello groaned in frustration. "I wasn't here when...when I needed to be."
