You completely misunderstood what I said. But I won't bother to go back to that. (Also, all my siblings are half-siblings as well, and I have a violent sibling as well so I understand that point of view. ) All I am saying it that using physical punishment is not the right choice, but that can just be personal.When a child continuously misbehaves, there is usually a reason, and I do not think hitting that child will help the underlying reason behind what they do.

I'm not saying beat every child.. hell no. Just some children do not learn any other way...

and sending a 9 year old to a psychologist is a bit much =/ That may do waaay more harm than good.

For me psychological harm is worse than physical harm. A psychologist or counselling should be the last, last, LAST resort... lest you want the child to grow up thinking there's something wrong with them. =w=

Of course. Psychologists should be a last resort, but physical punishment shouldn't be a first. Doctors should only be used for those who cannot seem to grasp what they are doing is wrong after continued attempts at trying to get them to stop. Like i said, there is often a reason behind what children do. Most of the time they learn it from somewhere. The best way to get them to stop is to find where they are learning from and go from there, not to a belt or switch or whatever. I understand the basic concept of corporal punishment, though I personally dislike it, but it should not be more than a light smack on the bottom or a hand. Using things like a belt, switch, etc. is excessive. To me it is violent because things like that tend to have more flexibility and thus can cause more harm when struck against flesh.

Actually, child counselors do work some wonders. Sometimes that kind of setting is necessary to find out what problems are going on and if they are all the fault of the child, if at all. And most of the time the child isn't being interviewed directly, it's the psychologist talking with the parent and then the psychologist taking notes on how he/she interacts with the toys and settings presented to him/her.

Though in order to qualify for certain types of counseling, some evidence of trouble has to be present and not just a tired parent wanting chill pills for an overly-active child. So yeah, there's nothing wrong with counseling, it's what kind you go to and how they go about treating.

i'm not talking only about the psychologist directly.
There's also a social stigma that surrounds a person being at a "shrink". I should know. I have been to SEVERAL. They have done absolutely nothing for me.

And I agree on the removal of the source of my sister's stupidity. I blame the TV and the Internet. I'm sick out countlessly telling my mother to stop her from watching those american shows that teach self-centered nonsense.

She's picking wrong things... even from the good shows.

She used to watch this.. Dora chick... and this girl would ask the "audience" to answer her question. It's -supposed- to teach kids to think for their self...

If a child is really in need of help and nothing else is working, worrying about their future rep should be the least of ones worries. Besides...most adults these days see shrinks daily anyways...though I hope kids won't have to end up like that...ugh sometimes i think the world is in a bad place right now
