If your vodka tastes like burning you haven't spent enough money on it. Good vodka is as clear as water -- it doesn't look cloudy and it doesn't look oily. It will have a pungent but smooth taste and it should feel as if it's evaporating in your mouth as you swallow it. There will of course be some level of "alcohol" taste, which combined with the pungency many people find unpleasant, but don't knock it until you've at least TRIED the good stuff.
