Vampires cover a lot of territory so it's hard to talk about what makes a real vampire and what doesn't. Making a vampire that's different from the old aristocratic style (ie. Anne Rice, Dracula), can work in Meyer's favour as much as against her. People can get sick and tired of the same old vampire styles (I've heard rants against the noble type for being overused, which one can argue has been around since the late 1800ds I imagine). I wouldn't say there is an old school Dracula though, as there really is just Dracula, ie, the figure in the Bram Stoker novel, and lots of speculation as to who Stoker may have been referencing when he thought him up.

Sucker Punch is on my list to watch. My brother thought it might be something I would like as it appears to be something of a mush of genres and ideas.

Cowboys and Aliens is apparently not bad, and I intend to see that too though as a renter since I don't bother with theaters much. I heard it was fairly true to the atmosphere of the old west, until the aliens appears, which is what I would hope for. It's only the assumption that aliens never bothered showing up until mankind moved into the 20th century that makes the film concept seem wierd or silly.

Yup, there is. It's not bad, and it tosses the whole documentary thing for the most part. It follows what's going on in the characters' heads throughout the aftermath of their hanging out in a particular area of the wood, along with bits ans pieces of home video that they have.

ok, I'll have to see it

I'm watching it now, and it seems boring, just like the first one. But it doesn't look like a documentary basis. It's like a regular movie about a group that's doing a documentary

It's not a great film but I wouldn't classify it as horrible. I'm one of those people that does stuff while watching movies though, so I can handle boring parts well enough. There aren't many movies that I sit and watch just to sit and watch. I usually have something else going.

I do that to most of the movies I have, I use it as background noise

Watching The Wolfman (2010) since it's not TV rightnow. Seems alright so far but something about it is definately rubbing me the wrong way. Not totally sure what it is. Doing a good job of being creepy though. Reminds me an aweful lot of Bram Stokers Dracula, but not really in a good way, complete with Anthony Hopkins. Not mindng Hugo Weaving's character so much, and I like looking at the horses. ;).

EDIT: well, now that I've stayed up to an ungodly hour given when I have to get up I may as well say that the movie wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it actually, the action at the end in particular. It was predictable and exceedingly typical of Gothic movies but I wouldn't call it horrible myself. Though to each their own of course.

On Twilight: There is no way, biologically, that Edward could have gotten Bella pregnant.

Sperm is only viable for a max (if you're lucky) 2 or 3 days without it being frozen....which didn't happen. I know Edward can't be that cold or they would've never been able to finish sex (let alone the biological reasons he wouldn't be able to have sex). Since Edward was changed into a vampire in the early 1900's....way before the time he met Bella....his sperm would have already been useless and he wouldn't be able to make more since he is technically dead.

So that baby is completely illogical even without the weird powers and the growing very quickly and all that shit. Not that anything about that series was logical anyway...-read ALL the books-

I read twilight and friends when they were coming out, for one reason: I knew it was becoming a fandom, and I would need the knowledge to combat it.

Also, I made a girl break down and start crying and near-convulsing once XD She hadn't read the last book, and I said Edward dies, and first she was pissed off and threw a beaker in the science lab(empty, thenk the gods), then started sobbing uncontrollably, then had like...an obvi-fake mini seizure(That part wasn't funny, I thought she might have been actually seizing and went into medic mode), then screaming and howling about how wrong it was.

This chick was 18.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to read books or watch television <.<

I was in my senior year of High School when the first twilight came out, I didn't notice the bombshell of Twilight Merchandises running around in school (we were going to the High School Musical phase). It's not until I went to college and saw junior high girls carrying, as well as college women having Twilight Backpacks, notebooks, and folders.

I got sick after that

I don't get it.

If you're going to fan-gasm, why not over real romance stories? Why not go all out for Hamlet? I rather enjoyed Hamlet o.o

well, they want more of the present time romance as well as Hamlet's story telling is more old English/hard to read than what present authors write (and I've never read Hamlet in school)

Hamlet isn't old English, though I assume you mean not contemporary. :). It's not something I would have thought of as a romance story there Hermes. That's curious.

I saw some pieces of the Twilight films, nothing really special in my opinion, though my sister did read the books and said they were entertaining for light, brainless reading. Haven't bothered with them myself as they just aren't my thing. Spying a rack of bookmarks and posters, t-shirts etc in the mall and stopped and had a lot. The main thing that went through my mind was that Edward just wasn't that cute. I said as much but there did not appear to be any twilight fans in the vicinity.
