Yes, pokémon itself babies can handle. But making the training, breeding and such is more advance but it's not really a must to beat the game and have fun with it. I beat pokémon blue when I was little and not knowing any English so I think I'll be fine even if I don't understand everything.

Yeah when I was playing the Japanese Diamond (I know no Japanese lol) the only part I got stuck on was when I had to give the Psyducks medicine. I had no idea what to do so I just waited a few days for a guides to come out. P=
