Chess was apparently invented by Mephistopheles in the DnD cosmos. :p I read a transcript of a game once where the party challenged him to a game. 'twas rather entertaining.

I can't remember what he wagered, but that was kind of irrelevant since they ended up losing. :p

DnD is the greatest game in existance. It is the only game that lets you do whatever you want and in an infinite number of ways. I beleive that everyone should be required at some point in their life to play dnd.
The rules are more guidlines that help keep things organized, and the point is just to create a story with your character. DnD is an experience that isn't like anything else.
