GUESS WHO? ~<3 By Mizeria
Default #18
Sadly, in this day and age, how a name is 'supposed' to be spelled is dependent on the person doing the naming.
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

Oh I know the show is, but I'm not sure about my grandmother. I've never seen her full name in print, and she's Danish so I'm not sure which letter would be used to get the sound.

Names today alone are related mostly to books or movies. So alot of names have meaning to different people.

I've never known anyone to name a kid from a movie or book, and I wouldn't say that names are largely related to those since it depends on what names people have encountered in a book. I haven't read Twilight so I don't know anyone besides Bella, Edward, and Jacob. I typically associate names with other people. "Edward" is my cousin's middle name so I think about it in relation to him. It probably depends on where one hears the name first. The names I attach to books or movies are the ones where I first heard the name and if it's become iconic to the book. "Bella" I think of twilight because I've rarely heard it before, and "Ishamael" makes me think of Moby Dick with the whole "Call me Ishmael" thing. The rest of the time they are just names attached to a person like any other name, except the person happens to be ficitonal.

Edward will always be the Spoony Bard to be. :P

between supposed lovers.
Between supposed brothers.

I have a vague recollection of this particular bard.

how about Damien. This is the boys name form the omen movies. He was the child of satan.

Hm, I like the name Edward, was recently considering not using it for a character in a story because of the Twilight association, and then decided nobody would think of Twilight for more than a couple seconds so am going to use it anyway.

I'm now rethinking giving him the surname "Harper" though XD How did I forget about Edward from FFIV??

I don't think I associate most names ONLY with characters unless the name is really unusual.

i have met a few people that had a name that triggered a movie and or show. like in first grade i had a friend named peter scully and i loved x-files and had to ask him if his mom was dana scully.

my sister named my nephew donald and i could not help myself when she told me his name i added Duck to the end. then she named his brother jerimiah and it popped jerimiah was a bullfrog into my head.

i have a cousin named cycilia and until she was 12 was convinced that the song cycilia was about her.

I guess I'll have to agree with what most other people are saying and say that the name "Edward" (but not so much "Bella"; makes me think of "Belle," which I associate with Beauty and the Beast) is completely ruined for me because of Twilight. However, whenever I watch Edward Scissorhands, that sparkling guy never even comes to mind.

Forgot about Edward Scissorhands, and Edward from Narnia, and Edward from Sense and Sensibility...

Edward is actually the name given to the first born male in my family line, and it's a pretty strong tradition in my family. I do feel a little bad for my son though, I'm thinking of nicknaming him Tiny Teddy >.>

i think sabrina is a pretty name but it makes me think of the movie sabrina and the tv show sabrina the teenage witch

Edward is now scarred for life to me because of Twilight.

In having to go through the naming game twice now, looking at names has taken on a new light for me. There were names that I like (Damien, Jacob, Edward) that I didn't use simply because I didn't want people thinking I named my kid after a fictional character.
