A mane of hair all down my spine,
A nose long and toothy,
In the night it walks,
With a prideful demeanor,
Leap and overtaking it encircles its prey,
With a mighty snap of the jaws,
Rend and tear with teeth so sharp,
The victim, life pouring,
Stares at its prison vest,
It signs and kicking it fades,
The king of the hunt now feeds.

Souls at helm by candle light.

strange
my usual black garments
strike a stark contrast against the blazing colors of fall
a thing i'm used to
but they eerily fit too well this time around

trembling
i take a deep breath
and lift the flute up to my parched lips
a wavering note
and then another
a haunting melody soon floats out through the dancing leaves

music
i weave my life into harmonies
the critters keep my company while the men look on
i forget the noose
and ignore the floor that suddenly disappears beneath my feet

The cold chills I feel now are a warm welcome.
They make me feel calm as I once was in your arms.
