there's one place
that isn't even dark
or cramped
not really, anyways.
but i'm scared of it.

there was once a brilliant kid
who had a brilliant mind
and a brilliant personality.
he was well-liked.

but hours and hours
spent bent over glowing screens
spent typing lines upon lines of code
spent laboring over an endless flow of errors
had left his mind shattered
and the brilliance in pieces.

so he found the tallest place
on a campus of hills
and threw himself over the railing.

it still scares me.
but sometimes i go there
and just sit
and think
and talk silently.
i don't know if he listens.
i never knew him anyhow.
but it helps me
and i hope it helps him.
