I didn't know you did this for a living? did you goto collage to study this and what is your profession called?

I mean, I don't do Trisphee for a living. I never did. It's just something that occasionally brings in a few bucks on the side. I mostly work for free, since I'm one of the founding staff (I think I'm the only one from the staff roster when the site launched that's still around) and I do the work because I enjoy it and I care about the site and the community.

My official title, in a professional capacity, is "senior software engineer." Used to be called "computer programmer" but calling it an engineering role is a lot more descriptive of the kind of work we do. You'll also hear us called "developers".

I have a degree in computer science, yes, but honestly I can't exactly recommend it. A degree is one way to get your foot in the door because the job market is super competitive (there are a zillion developers out there but not an infinite number of jobs) but experience matters more than college. I got where I am because of the projects I worked on for myself.

I've a lot of friends w degrees in CS, and... boy it's hard to find a job even w a CS degree from one of the top CS universities in the US.

If you HAVE a CS degree and you want a job, move to the San Francisco Bay Area and expect to pay a stupid amount of money on rent, but also expect to START at over $60k.

You do, however, need to be able to code your way out of a paper bag, which is more than I can say for many people I've met. Which is where personal projects come into play -- having a portfolio of interesting programs that you've built is the best way to get an employer's attention.

I thought I'd done so well on this job interview?? Like what do I keep doing wrong that no one wants to employ me?? Like why can't I ever be fucking good enough for anyone?? ;-;

Like everyone around me is doing so well. "Just hired as a photographer at Lifetouch!" "Got that promotion!" Even my half brother who's been in and out of both prison and rehab all his life got the high-paying job he was hoping for. I can't even manage to get a job in fucking retail with a clean record and great references. What is wrong with me??

Nothing's wrong with you. It's just bad timing and market positioning. Those kinds of jobs aren't as bountiful as people make it sound. My wife has had the same issue. Retail stores don't usually hire for full-time, and part-time hiring usually only happens in anticipation of things like holiday rush.

Honestly, it's easier to get a job in food service than it is to get a job in retail. Though even that can be a saturated market.

ENTERED A PERPETUAL STATE OF BOREDOM. DST IS THE ONE THING KEEPING ME ENTERTAINED, WARFRAME IS THE OTHER. TURN OF TIDES LAUNCHES NEXT WEEK. WARFRAME IS SINGLEHANDEDLY GIVING ME CARPAL TUNNEL.

ALSO MY LAPTOP HAS A FEW MINOR THINGS THAT ANNOY ME (I.E: SUDDENLY I'LL JUST STOP MOVING WHILE HOLDING W, I CAN'T MOVE MY CROSSHAIR W/ THE MOUSE IF I'M HOLDING W TO MOVE BECAUSE IT THINKS I'M TYPING).

Having so much anxiety in silence right now...I don't know what to expect for orientation, and I really think I'm going to be uncomfortable blending in with the freshmen students fresh out of high school. I hope I don't see anyone I know, and I hope I don't break down inside, because I feel super duper underachieved. I don't wanna go but I have to because it's a requirement. ;~;

Literally just walked out the door of work to a blinding flash of lightning. And I have to walk home in this shit.
Walking when there's a lot of lightning makes me nervous/scares af.

Went to the makerspace only to discover they updated their software and instead of laser cutting my wooden ornaments I spent two hours trying to figure out the new software.

You wouldn't be the only person to complain about maker software that decides to overhaul the UI on an irregular-but-too-frequent basis.

Probably not, yeah. I'm fine with small changes, but would appreciate a short note whenever they decide the new UI will be completely unrecognizable. Murphy dictates it also always happens on the worst possible day ^^ Lots of time? Congrats, UI stays the same. Just want to make a quick cut? Nope, welcome to our magnificent update!

oh, lord, i hate it when that happens.

on a slightly worse note, i'm eternally afraid of the cats getting run over as a result of being allowed to run around without supervision. can't do anything about it but grieve prematurely.
